Elkær Group's founders come from humble beginnings, but the family has a tradition of helpfulness, loyalty and generosity to others. As the business grew, opportunities arose to provide moral and financial support, including for those who were doing their best but had inadvertently ended up in need.

Elkær Group's founders come from humble beginnings, but the family has a tradition of helpfulness, loyalty and generosity to others. As the business grew, opportunities arose to provide moral and financial support, including for those who were doing their best but had inadvertently ended up in need. This could be those who dreamed of building an independent future through their own efforts and hard work, or employees and others with links to the family who found themselves in difficulty.
The founders were keen to ensure that their descendants did not forget how it all began. They therefore wanted part of the profits from the group's activities to continue to be used to help individuals and causes considered worthy of support.
The Elkær Foundation was set up in this spirit to support worthy charitable causes, whether individuals or organisations. It is important to the foundation that its support makes a real difference to the recipient, and it does not therefore normally support large-scale charities or campaigns.
The foundation receives applications on an ongoing basis. Applications are normally considered at a meeting held in the first quarter each year, but in special cases the board may approve payments at other times of the year.
Some of the causes the Elkær Foundation has supported
Burkina Faso. The Elkær Foundation built a school in Burkina Faso together with Les Amis de Poa.
